About the Authors of "SolidWorks for the Sheet
Metal Guy" Joe Bucalo is the founder and President of Applied Production, Inc. He has over 30 years experience in the sheet metal industry, working with and developing software products to change the manufacturing world. When CAD was just beginning on the PC, Joe played a major role in the development of ProFold, the first truly automatic 3D sheet metal unfolding program. When most people were using a wall chart of bend deductions, Joe was promoting the use of the K-factor for more accurate flat patterns. Joe later paved the way for graphics based sheet metal CAM when he introduced ProFab, which allows the direct transfer of geometry from CAD to CAM. ProFab was the first CAM program in the sheet metal industry to include an automatic tool selection routine. Joe continues to work with clients to solve their design and manufacturing problems. He has a thorough knowledge of the most popular CAD programs and understands the issues faced by sheet metal manufacturers. Neil Bucalo has a diverse background, including mechanical design engineering, CAD/CAM support and training, engineering consulting, web development, and technical writing. Neil started his career in support and training of the CADKEY software at Computer Aided Technology, Inc. He then moved forward as a Certified SolidWorks Support Technician. Upon moving to the Cincinnati area, Neil joined Applied Production, Inc., a SolidWorks Solution Partner, where he has provided customer support and written several user training documents. He also created and served as Editor of the CKD Magazine, dedicated to users of the CADKEY software. Neil is a CAD expert, having many years of experience using numerous CAD systems, including AutoCAD, CADKEY/KeyCreator, Solid Edge, and of course SolidWorks. For the record, Neil is Joe’s nephew.
