Change the Orientation of the Standard Views
(Taken from
the book Customizing SolidWorks For Greater Productivity, Chapter 8, pages 92-94.)

There are many standard SolidWorks views to choose from. Once in awhile you get a part that just isn’t oriented the way you think it should be. What you think is the Top view is really the Front view. One thing that you can do is change the orientation of the standard model views in the Orientation dialog box without rotating the model.

For example, press the Space Bar, or pull down the “View” menu and pick Modify – Orientation.

In the Orientation dialog box, double click on Front to change the orientation to the Front view.

Single click on Top in the Orientation dialog box to pick Top, the name of a standard view you want to assign to the current Front view orientation of the model.

Click the Update Standard Views button to update all of the standard views so they are relative to the selected view, as shown in Figure 1.

In the SolidWorks dialog box, click Yes to confirm the update.

To see what this did, in the Orientation dialog box, double click on Trimetric to change the orientation to the Trimetric view, as shown in Figure 2.

To change things back to the original standard views, in the Orientation dialog box, click the Reset Standard Views button, as shown in Figure 3.
