Radial Dimension on a Revolved Feature
It is important to dimension the sketch properly to get the result you want. For this tip, a sketch was created with a vertical centerline and an angled line. The line will be revolved around the centerline to create a thin revolved feature. If you select the endpoints of the centerline when dimensioning, a linear dimension is created, as shown in Figure 1.

Since this is going to be a cone, a radial dimension is desired. To do this, you must pick the centerline and not the endpoint of the centerline when dimensioning in the sketch, as shown in Figure 2. This will ensure that a radial dimension will be placed instead of a linear dimension when the revolve is completed.

Many times you want to be able to control the size of the cone by using its diameter, as shown in Figure 3. To view the dimensions as diameter dimensions, right click on the dimensions in the graphics area and pick Display Options - Display As Diameter from the menu.

You can also right click on the dimensions in the graphics area again and pick Display Options - Display As Linear from the menu, as shown in Figure 4.
