Displaying Toolbars
with Keyboard Shortcuts If a part document is not open in SolidWorks, create a new Part file.
Pull down the “Tools” menu and pick
Customize, or right click on the menu bar and pick Customize.
Scroll down and find the toolbar in the command list that you would like to assign a keyboard shortcut to. For this example, we will use 2D to 3D.., as shown in Figure 1. Click in the Shortcut(s) box for 2D to 3D.. and press the 2 key on the numeric keypad, with Number Lock turned on, as shown in Figure 1. Note that the 2 key on the alphabetic part of the keyboard doesn’t work, only the numeric keypad on keyboards that have a separate number pad.
In the Customize dialog box, click OK. Now, if you press the 2 key on the numeric keypad, the toolbar toggles on if it is not displayed, and off if it is displayed. This is a great way to gain drawing space but still have your tools close by. With a press of a key you can quickly display a set of tools on a customized toolbar or just a standard toolbar. After you are done using the toolbar, just press the key again to turn off the display of the toolbar. More on this topic is offered in the book Customizing SolidWorks For Greater Productivity - Chapter 5: Keyboard Shortcuts.
